I wish to express my sincere thank you's to all of you who came to assist me in this challenge of overcoming this immense hurdle in my life. You have all helped save my life.

However, how can a "thank you" be enough? I wish that I could personally know and thank each of you, but be assured that God has received my prayers of blessing for everyone's gift of support and prayers.

This experience has shown me devastation, too many tears, fear, fragility of life, and the true heartache of such sadness. But, I have also seen the goodness in people to help, and I have acknowledged my own struggle to accept help.

Many of you do not know, I was always the independent single Mom, since my youngest was 8 months old. He is 29 now and a Captain in the Army, and with his older sister and brother, always saw Mom as the person who did for everyone else.

I learned to change a tire, I figured out how to get the Van unstuck in the sand, to change the oil, I bought a mitre saw and made perfect 45 degree angles when I replaced a ceiling. I figured out how to replace a toilet, without breaking any water lines, I changed out the garbage disposal, and much more, I did this because I had no one to help me, no family here and as the single Mom, could never ask any man for help from the neighborhood. My kids knew me as the Mom who got things done, and so did their friends, who spent many a night at my house because I was home. I was the Mom, not afraid to drive to Alaska, or across Canada, or go to Disney World and let their friends go too.

I was the Mom who studied with them at the kitchen table, because everyone was going to school. I am a teacher, I have a Masters degree, I have a Nursing degree, and I have a Law degree. I was the Nurse at Lee High School for many years and worked with Special Needs children. When I decided to go to Law school, my youngest was in his senior year and I chaired Project Graduation my first year of Law school. Michael went to the Citadel, and Mom and son made the Dean's list the same semester.

Mom was always fine and the one to count on. So how can this awful disease affect me? I don't know, and I did not know what to do.

Having no insurance was not intended. And being over 50, (yes hard for me to believe too), made a premium more than my house payment. I was healthy, at work every day, so I just thought I could wait.

What I have learned is that the system does not care that you pay your taxes, give to the community, and help others. You have to lose everything, not make over the maximum SSI amount of $647 or wait 2 years for Medicaid. I felt so scared, where was help for me?

And You All came to help. I am so grateful and humbled. You came forward and said "we can help". Thank you.

It is astronomical the cost of treatment but "With God all things are Possible". I have had 4 Chemotherapy treatments now and the next is August 12. I have experienced a fatigue that made it unsafe for me to drive. I have never known continuous nausea. The hair shedding is sad, but these side effects and what waits around the corner will be met with my same determination, I will get through this. I have clients to help and I have bills to pay, so I will work what I can and feel the support of prayers and appreciate the help provided to me.

I know there are many names to recognize, but I must express to you the gift of my children, John, Vanessa and Michael Hudson. Their strength brought forth their faith and their resolve to develop a plan and seek guidance and act. This journey has a long winding road and the destination is unknown but that becomes our lives and we meet people along the way who touch our lives and we learn and love. So many have touched my life. I thank you.
